Dear Students:

On Friday May 27 we emailed:
i. AAMC authorization codes and instructions to set up your account and activate your codes at www.e-mcat.com
ii. instructions to access our Online Forum so you can interact with students and instructors from Monday May 30 to Sunday August 7

Please check your Spam folder if you did not receive an email today with Subject: Prep101 (MCAT) – Your AAMC codes.

This post covers how to do the 8 Simulated MCATs including how to email (a screenshot of) your Score Report and your Writing Sample Essays to the designated instructor in your city.

Schedule of Simulated MCATs
Please note dates below are deadlines to email your Score Report and Essays to the designated instructor – not dates to actually do Simulated MCATs. You can do Simulated MCATs any time that is most convenient for you.

Simulated 1 = AAMC Practice Test 3* (Deadline = before midnight Friday June 3**)
*AAMC Practice Test 3 is Free so you don’t need authorization code for Simulated 1
** we extended the deadline to give you a full week to do Simulated 1
Simulated 2 = AAMC Practice Test 4 (Deadline = before midnight Wednesday June 8)
Simulated 3 = AAMC Practice Test 5 (Deadline = before midnight Wednesday June 15)
Simulated 4 = AAMC Practice Test 7 (Deadline = before midnight Wednesday June 22)
Simulated 5 = AAMC Practice Test 8 (Deadline = before midnight Wednesday July 6)
Simulated 6 = AAMC Practice Test 9 (Deadline = before midnight Wednesday July 13)
Simulated 7 = AAMC Practice Test 10 (Deadline = before midnight Wednesday July 20)
Simulated 8 = AAMC Practice Test 11 (Deadline = before midnight Wednesday July 27)

How to do Simulated MCATs
Go to: http://www.e-mcat.com/

Type in your e-mail and password under “Login Here” at top right (you must already have set up your account for this to work.)

Under “Start a New Test” click on “Start Online” for the Practice Test you are writing (Practice Test 3 for Simulated MCAT 1).

Select the following settings for your Practice Test:

Timing = On
Deliver the Questions = Sequential
Self Diagnosis = Off
Solutions = Do Not Show
Difficulty = All
Accommodations = Off
Deliver the Following = Entire Test

Click on “Click Here to Start Your Test” above the table

Review your settings.

Select “Start Test” when ready. You are now committed to a 5 hour exam!

Please only have a pencil and scrap paper. No water bottle, no calculator, and no notes.

Complete the optional tutorial on your first Practice Test but you can skip this thereafter.

Complete all four subtests (PS, WS, VR, BS)

Extracting your Writing Sample Essays
The AAMC does not score your 2 WS essays on the Practice MCATs. But we will. The tricky part is extracting your essays from e-mcat.com so you can email them to our instructors to score.

There are two ways to do this:

Option 1 (simple) – Write the 2 essays in a Notepad document using prompts, instructions, and timer in the Practice Test and later cut-and-past the essays into a Word document with the Screen Shot of your Score Report (discussed below).
Option 2 (more complicated) - Write your essays in the text-box provided on e-mcat.com and copy each essay into a Word document either before time expires or later using Review Your Test function.

If the explanation below seems complicated, don’t panic. You have UNLIMITED ACCESS to your Practice MCATs for 1 year so you can play around with them until you make it work.

You don’t have to hit “save” constantly as the software is programmed to automatically save when time expires.

You should be able to cut-and-paste your essays into a Word document after you finish the Practice Test when you “Review Your Test”. To be safe, however, we recommend you copy each essay into a Word document about 30 seconds before time expires (see Time Remaining: at bottom left of screen). We’ve heard of a few students inexplicably losing their essays in the past.

To copy your essays after you finish the Practice Test:
i. click “Review All” button in your Diagnostic Report
ii. work through (keep pressing Next) the Practice Test until you reach the WS section
iii. when you reach the WS section, scroll down to the bottom of each web-page to find your essay (top of web-page has sample essays in blue) iv. copy (ctrl c) and paste (ctrl v) your two essays into the Word document with the screen shot of your Score Report. Note there are also copy and paste buttons on the web-page that you should also be able to use.

Extracting your Score Report
Under the “Completed Tests” section of your account homepage, click on the View Diagnostic Report link for the Practice Test you have completed.

Use the Print Screen button on your keyboard (or the Snipping Tool in Windows 7) to take a screen shot of the top of the Diagnostic Score Report with your Composite - Estimated Scaled Score in the fourth column of the top row.

Email your Score Report and WS essays to our instructor
Save the Word Document with your Score Report and 2 essays using your full name plus Simulated MCAT # as the file name (e.g., John Orsay Simulated 1.doc)

Use the same name in the Subject: of the email (e.g., Subject: John Orsay Simulated 1) when you email the Word document to our instructor.

You should expect Writing Sample scores and feedback by email within 5 days.

Hi Impr,

Does your keyboard have a "function" key? If it does, it would be found on the bottom left corner and would be labelled "Fn." You can try pressing this key and the "Print Screen" key at the same time and it should hopefully work. If you do not have a "function" key, you can also try pressing CTRL + PRINT SCREEN or ALT + PRINT SCREEN.

Also, when you hit "print screen," have you tried going to Paint or Microsoft Word and then pasting (CTRL + V) to see if anything would paste?

Please let us know so that we can help you further.

I wrote all of the practice MCAT practice tests between this and last year already but plan to write the 11th test that AAMC offers. Can I send this to my instructor and expect it to be marked?

I would arrange this first with the actual instructor you want to mark it....most teachers are finished this week (or last) and go back to their normal jobs. The answer is certainly not a no, but in my experience I would e-mail your instructor directly and just make sure they will even be around (i.e., some might even be going on vacation shortly).

Thanks - I've asked some of our York instructors to answer your Chemistry/Physics questions....hopefully you will get a response shortly.
