Hello,

I was completing some of the question for the biology question pack and I came across a question which I do not really understand. The stem is

"Which of the following characteristics clearly marks fungi as eukaryotes?"

The answer choices are

A.They have cell walls.
B. They contain ribosomes.
C. They contain mitochondria.
D. They exhibit sexual reproduction.

I initially thought the answer would be D because prokaryotes reproduce by binary fission. The correct answer was C. I understand the reasoning for C because eukaryotes have membrane bound organelles but wouldn't that mean that this question has 2 correct answers or is there an exception for some prokaryotes which can reproduce sexually?

Thank you in advance

Hello,

Sexual reproduction requires the combining of genetic information from two individuals. Many species can be categorized as eukaryotes and not all reproduce through sexual reproduction. Therefore, that wouldn't be the categorizing factor for why fungi are eukaryotes. Fungi actually reproduce both sexually and asexually.

I hope this helps :)
