Hello,

In the classroom companion, page 221 it is discussed that the amide C-N bond doesn`t rotate because of resonance. Is this also true for esters and anhydrides--i.e. do the C-O bonds also not rotate for those? Thank you!

Hi Jolie,

Nope, this is unique to the amide C-N. Nitrogen is great at giving away a lone pair to form a bond, but oxygen is not as great as doing that.
