Hi,
why is the electron configuration of oxygen 1s^2, 2s^2, 2p^4 and not 1s^2, 2p^6? Wouldn't the latter configuration be prefered due to HUnd's rule?

The 2s subshell is a lower energy subshell than the 2p so electrons will fill 2s first thus leaving only 4 electrons to fill up the 6 possible positions in 2p.
