Hi there,

Just wondering if the med reels for acids and bases would be posted. It looks like it went from class 1 to class 3 because class 2 is labelled as organic chemistry. If I am just missing where it is could you direct me to it?

Thanks,

Kara

Hi Kara,

The Med Reels for Acid and Bases should be in Chem/Ochem Lecture 7, as they are organized by the order in the Exam Krackers rather than the Classroom Companion.

Cheers,

Katt

Hi! Looking at EK ICE 7 Q 157, I do not understand why the answer is A. How do we know that arginine has a higher pKa and why does this add stability? Thank you!

In the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation: log [A-] / [HA] + pka = pH.
[A-] represents the concentration of the base while [HA] represents the concentration of the acid. Since the question stem tells us that the ratio of the acid to base = 10:1, it is as saying the concentration of the acid is 10 times that of the base so we can substitute their ratios in the equation to be log [1]/[10]. Hope this helps.
