Hello,
In regards to Fischer projections, does it matter where the H is when assigning priorities, so we know that the H or lowest priority group is always facing away, but in Fischer projections would that be on the left or right side ? Thanks !

Hi,

Recall that on Fischer projections, the Horizontal lines come out to Hug you, so the hydrogens on the left and right side are always pointing towards you, regardless if they are on the left or right as you pointed out.

This means that the hydrogens are always facing towards you in this horizontal H configuration, and therefore any R/S you assign will be opposite to the expected rotation from 1 --> 2 --> 3.

Sometimes they try to trip you up on vertical Hs, these will be away from you and you will have the expected configuration.

I hope this helps!
