I was wondering if you could explain what the Root Mean Square Speed is (in terms of the Kinetic molecular theory). I am confused of the purpose of the equation and when to use it.

Hello,
The Root Mean Squared Speed measures speed of particles in a gas, and it takes into consideration both molecular weight and temperature - both factors directly affect the kinetic energy of a material.
