Hi there,

After reviewing the EK explanation for this question, I find myself confused by some vocabulary. The Q states that the DNA strand contains 3400 base pairs, and basically asks for the number of nucleotides present after mRNA splicing. As a hypothetical example, would the phrase "base pair" mean a G-C together, or just a G?

Splicing aside, I thought that 3400 base pairs would equate to 6800 nucleotides. Can you help to clarify this bio language?

Hi there,
Yes base pair would refer to G-C together. I do not have the question in front of me but just remember that while DNA is double stranded, mRNA is single stranded. So while in DNA there might be 6800 nucleotides in a sequence, the mRNA equivalent would have 3400 nucleotides (before splicing.)
