Hi, can someone please explain the example on page 159 where it talks about how nucleophilicity parallels basicity when comparing species with the same attacking atom.
What is the attacking atom in the case of the example?
Thanks.

Hello,
In the case of 159, the attacking atom in question is the O-.
For example, it ranks the carboxylic acid as less nucleophilic because it is less basic.
Hope this helps, please let me know if you would prefer an annotated clarification.
