Hi there,

For the Chapter 4 lecture questions in the EK I don't seem to understand the answer for question 79. It is asking for which answer is false and I selected option D which says that a catalyst shifts the reaction equilibrium to the right. However, this was not the right answer. Is it not false that a catalyst affects the equilibrium?

Thanks,
Emma

Hi,

I cannot find the question you are refering to in the ICEs or the lectures - could you provide a page number or the full question here for clarification?

Thanks!

A.Catalysts are not used up by the reaction
B.Catalysts lower the energy of activation

I agree with you. As written, I would also have said that D is not true concerning catalysts and is therefore the correct answer.

I think that this is a typo in the answer key - again I still cannot find it in my EK, so maybe this is a different version?

Catalysts cannot change reaction equilibrium.
