Hello!

I am confused about the rules that Faisal stated on the bottom of page 158 of CC Physics. It explains uniform electric fields. I am confused why positive charges accelerate to points of lower electric potential (ΔPE = - )
and negative charges accelerated to points of higher electric potential (ΔPE = - ) ?

Thank you!

Hi,

I think Faisal means something like what I've drawn here: https://ibb.co/xh7nPNG

I view uniform electric fields as extensions of coloumb's law, where + attracts - and - attracts +.

Because electric fields have a gradient from + to -, you can expect - and + charged species to move in opposite directions.
