Hindbrain: Reticular formation, medulla oblongata, cerebellum, pons
- Reticular formation: seratonin (neurotransmitter). Mood, appetite, sex, dreams
- Medulla oblongata: controls heart and lungs. Monitors oxygen.
- Cerebellum: balance, muscle activity.
- Pons: relay between medulla and thalamas.
Mid brain: inferior and superior colliculi. Also called tectums
- Superior: optic. Top of the brain
- Inferior: vestibular. Bottom of the brain.
Forebrain: thalamas, hypothalamus, limbic system, basal ganglia, cerebral cortex
- Thalamas: relay center for brain, most perception travels through here.
- Hypothalamus: 3 H. HOMEOSTASIS. HORMONES through HYPOPHOSPHEAL.
- Basal ganglia: same as dopamine (neurotransmitter); postural stability and smooths muscle movements
Limbic system: 4 components
- Septal nuclei - pleasure seeking
- Amygdala - fear and aggression
- Hippocampus - memory (explicit)
- Fornix - relay system for Limbic system ONLY
