Hello,
The following question was in AAMC bio qpack 1:
What is the net volume of fresh air that enters the alveoli each minute, assuming that the breathing rate is 10 breaths/min, the tidal volume is 800 mL/breath, and the nonalveolar respiratory system volume (dead space) is 150 mL?

65 mL
95 mL
6500 mL
7850 mL

I looked at the medreels explaining this problem and I understand how to do it but I was wondering if there were any other concepts or formulas related to lung volume such as residual volume, vital capacity etc, that we should be familiar with for the mcat.

Thanks!

Hi Sukham,

I was not that familiar with these lung capacity concepts for my MCAT as far as I recall.

I would know the basics of how to do this type of question, but I cannot think of formulas or concepts beyond this type of question to know for the MCAT.

I would say that if there were more complicated concepts than this type of thing, they would likely be covered in a passage.

I hope this helps!
