Hi,
For this question we have to find the moles of NAG3 at equivalence point. At equivalence point moles of titrant = moles of titrand and from what I understand is that NAG3 is the titrant and HEW is the titrand. So I was wondering why ONLY using the concentration and volume of HEW to find the moles of NAG3 at equivalence point gives you the correct answer. Why can't you use NAG3 concentration and volume to find its moles at equivalence point if moles of NAG3 = moles of HEW at equivalence point.

Thanks

Hi Sukham,

Could you provide more information on the question? I do not have access to the AAMC questions unfortunately.

Thanks!

Katt

Hi
Do you know how I can post a screenshot of the passage and question to the forum? My question is easier to understand if you have read the passage.

Hi Sukham,

I have had to do image hosting or sharing from google drive, but I think it would be most convenient if you could email it to me at katerinadschwab@gmail.com

Thanks!

Hi Sukham,

Thanks for your email. I have attached a solution here, please check its veracity (I don't have the solutions either so I hope it's correct).

The reason that I would use HEW rather than the volume of NAG3 is because the passage only gives you the volume and number of moles for a single injection, and multiple injections are needed for this titration.

You could figure out how many injections it takes to get to the equivalence point, but it's much easier to just look at the graph and realize HEW and NAG3 are in a 1:1 molar ratio at the equivalence point, so you can use the moles HEW = moles NAG3, which is easiest to get through this moles HEW given in the passage.

Please let me know if this is unclear,

Thanks,

Katt
