Hello,
I have a few questions about this AAMC q:

The precursor of EGP is translated from a transcript that has had one nontemplated nucleotide added to the open reading frame. This change does not create or eliminate a stop codon. Compared with the protein sGP, which is produced from the unedited transcript, EGP most likely has the same primary:

A.amino-terminal sequence as sGP, but a different primary carboxy-terminal sequence.
B.carboxy-terminal sequence as sGP, but a different primary amino-terminal sequence.
C.sequence as sGP except that EGP has one additional amino acid.
D.sequence as sGP except that EGP has one less amino acid.

1. Does the beginning of an open reading frame refer to the DNA sequence that codes for the start codon, which then gets transcribed into the mRNA transcript they are referring to in the question?

2. What is a primary carboxy terminal sequence? Is there a difference between this and the carboxy terminal end of an mRNA transcript or are they the same thing?

Thanks

Hi Sukham,

1. Does the beginning of an open reading frame refer to the DNA sequence that codes for the start codon, which then gets transcribed into the mRNA transcript they are referring to in the question?

This can be kind of ambiguous. Here you are referring the the mRNA transcript that is being translated, but by that you could be also referring to its progenitor DNA.

In this question, since you're only looking at mRNA --> protein, it is simpler just to view it as a change in the mRNA transcript.

2. What is a primary carboxy terminal sequence? Is there a difference between this and the carboxy terminal end of an mRNA transcript or are they the same thing?

By primary carboxy terminal sequence I assume they mean the amino acid sequence at the C-terminus of the protein product. The mRNA does not have a carboxy terminus, just a 5' and 3' end.

I hope this helps!
