Hello,

I just want to confirm if going from left to right on the periodic table, atomic size decreases due to more attraction.

If so, does acidity increase from left to right, due to electronegativity and not due to atomic size?

And increase going down the periodic table due to size, not electronegativity?

Thank you!

Hi there,

Acid strength increases from left to right and top to bottom. While it may be confusing that acidity doesn't follow the exact same trends as electronegativity and size, it is helpful to remember that there are many different forces at play. Your thought process is correct - and as long as you know these major trends you should be able to answer questions on it.
