Hi,

I'm wondering if you have any tips on how to quickly pick up on the key information in passages that rely on an experiment/study. I find myself taking quite a bit of time or misinterpreting the study findings.

Thank you!

Hey Nicole!

Totally. Sometimes those experiments can be tricky to interpret.
What really helps me understand what is going on is looking firstly at what the "normal" is. It could be wild type or some other designation they mention in the passage. I then look at what exactly is on the axis. What is being measured? What does "normal" seem like and is it generally lower or higher than the mutants? What are some trends that I can see? Are there additions of chemicals that are causing increases/decreases in what I am measuring?, and is there some reason that I can think of or was mentioned earlier in the passage that I can connect to regarding what I see?

I hope these tips help. Happy studying!

Cheers,

Molly
