For question 35 in introduction to organic chemistry: isn't there a ketone, and ether, and an ester in the product (not just an ester)?

-Ether = bonds to carbonyl and CHCH3 from the oxygen
-Ketone = carbonyl to two different functional groups

Hi Kaylene,

Technically, yes; but an ester is a combination of a ketone with an ether. The reason why such a differentiation is important is because the combination of ketone with ether actually creates a functional group that has a much different reactivity profile in comparison to ketone or ester on its own. So, the most correct answer is ester.
