Hello,

The topic of freezing point depression came up on the Altius FL 3 (Q53 in Chem/Physics) and I was just wondering if that is something the MCAT usually tests.

What exactly is freezing point depression?

Thank you!

Hi there,

Freezing point depression is what happens when you add a solvent to a solute which results in the freezing point of the solvent to lower. The intermolecular points cause the solvent to freeze later than it normally would.

I would recommend knowing that this phenomena exists, however if it comes up on the MCAT the passage should give you the relevant information to solve the problem.
