A sensory stimulus is any event or object that is received by the senses and elicits a response from a person. The stimulus can come in many forms such as light, heat, sound, touch, as well as from internal factors. Distal and proximal are classifications of these stimuli.

Distal stimuli are objects and events out in the world about you. Proximal stimuli are the patterns of stimuli from these objects and events that actually reach your senses (eyes, ears, etc.).

Incentive stimuli have three fundamental properties: (1) they attract, eliciting approach towards them; (2) they are “wanted”, in the sense that animals will work to get them; and (3) they can spur ongoing instrumental actions to obtain the associated reward. An example of this would be drugs for someone with an addiction

This is a Psychology question that falls under content category “Individual influences on behavior.” The answer to this question is A because, from an evolutionary standpoint, humans have developed a preference for high caloric foods because they are a good source of fuel in the form of fat. Fat can sustain bodily functions through periods of time when food is scarce (a common problem throughout evolution). It is a Scientific Reasoning and Problem Solving question because you must use information provided in the passage to draw a conclusion about the evolutionary perspective of human motivation.

This question you have to read between the lines and think about what would be the goal of an evolutionary perspective- being the fittest and highest likelihood to survive (you can even reframe this question to a basic caveman if you want to think from an evolutionary standpoint). High caloric food would be the highest bang for your buck for a caveman looking to grow and evolve.
