Hi,

In resolving cognitive dissonance, 3 methods are used: 1. change attitude 2. change behaviour 3. change perception of behaviour. What's the difference between changing attitude vs. changing your perception of behaviour? Wouldn't both be changing how you view the behaviour?

Thanks

Hi Nicole! Excellent question.

Here it is important to distinguish between attitude, behaviour and perception.

Perception is the use of our brain to understand a situation or our surrounding.

Attitude is someone's actual feeling or way of thinking about someone (this is based off of our perception).

Behaviour is something we do, it is actionable.

I hope that helps!
