What is your current strategy for figuring out the main idea of a passage, and what do you think the main idea of this one is?
Some helpful questions to ask might be 1. Why did the author right this piece, what is the purpose? 2. What did the author care about most? 3. What idea/impression would this author most want you to take away? Sometimes it can be helpful to think about these while you are reading in order to discern what the main idea is.
That being said, sometimes it is very difficult to determine what the main idea is, and not always the most helpful! Don't stress if you feel like you can't figure out exactly what the main idea is. Having good comprehension of the passage and being able to extrapolate from that is more important in my opinion!
