Hello!

The potential answers for a question on an AAMC exam include: B) social and cultural capital and C) cultural values and norms.

What is the difference between the 2?

Hi Victoria,

Would you be able to copy and paste the question or provide information on which number in AAMC 2 it is? I think I could give a better reply this way.

Otherwise, here are some ways of thinking about these terms:

- Social capital: this is the 'who' you know. Your social capital is made up of the social networks and the people within those networks who can help or hinder you personally or socially.

- Cultural capital: this is the 'what' you know in a social sense. It is anything of value that’s not literal money or people. For example, your mannerisms, vocabulary prowess, marketable skills, etc.

- Cultural values and norms: when referring to these the MCAT is less referring to an individual and more so to a society or group. Social norms define expected or acceptable behavior in particular circumstances. Social norms can also be defined as the shared ways of thinking and acting which are observable in regularly repeated behaviors and are adopted because they are assumed to solve problems.

Hope this helps :)
