Hi! I had a question about question 17 from passage 3. I was wondering where from the question stem that we can infer that the post-menopausal women were suffering from hypothyroidism and this condition would be worsened because of the increased estrogen intake? Is this information listed in the passage or is it knowledge from classroom companion or EK book?

Hi Emily,

This information can be derived from the passage and question stem. The first sentence of the second paragraph talks about how estrogen results in an increase in Thyroxine Binding Globulins, which would make you expect lowered levels of T4 (thyroxine) and by feedback mechanism, would result in elevated TSH. This is discussed more in detail in class #6.
